PE and Sport Funding

Abbot's Hall PE and Sport Funding

Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

Sports Premium

At Abbot’s Hall Community Primary School we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the well-being and academic achievement of all our children. Children at Abbot’s Hall have a minimum of 2 hours PE teaching per week as part of their curriculum entitlement and many of our children are active members of sports clubs and activities provided by the Gipping Valley School Sports Partnership and members of staff within our school.

Primary School’s Sports Funding

From September 2013, the Government provided all schools in England with a Sports Premium grant. The rationale behind this was to ensure that there is an Olympic legacy for sport in England. The grant was given to schools to enhance the provision of sport and PE. Schools are given the choice of how the money is spent, as each school setting has their own particular needs and areas on which they need to focus.

What is the Sports Premium.

The government is providing funding of £150 million per annum to provide primary school sport funding. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.
